About NIFT - Set up in 1986, NIFT (National Institute of fashion technology) is the pioneering institute of fashion education in the country and has been in the vanguard of providing professional human resource to the textile and apparel industry. It was made a statutory institute in 2006 by an Act of the Indian Parliament with the President of India as ‘Visitor’ and has full-fledged campuses all across the country. Over the years NIFT has also been working as a knowledge service provider to the Union and State governments in the area of design development and positioning of handlooms and handicrafts.

NIFT Highest, Lowest and Average Placements -

NIFT-  Coming to the minimum salary package its Rupees 3 lakh per annum, average salary package is between 5LPA – 8LPA and for highest it was offered 18 lakh per annum by the companies Monte Carlo, H&M, Bata India Limited etc.

For Masters - Lowest salary package its 3 Lakh per annum and highest is 16 lakh per annum and average it starts from 4 lakh to 8 lakh.

Fashion Design - Fashion design is the art of applying design, aesthetics, clothing construction and natural beauty to clothing and its accessories. It is influenced by culture and different trends and has varied over time and place.

Skills you need to design and construct garments, including pattern making, cutting, sewing, fabric printing, and craftsmanship, while also learning valuable marketing skills such as analysing trends, visual merchandising, how to create promotional materials, graphic design, styling, and photography.

Fashion Communication - The Fashion Communication programme primarily focuses on four major domains i.e., Graphic design, Space design, Fashion Media and Fashion thinking and the related genres of these major areas, using hand and digital skills through knowledge, application and practice based approach.FC has made it feasible for the brands to communicate their products, identity and strategy by providing facilities for these very brands.

There is infinite scope for the graduates of Fashion Communication to explore and expand their horizons. In the areas of branding, styling, social media marketing, photography, commercial fashion space, UI & UX design and graphics, Fashion Communication graduates are both versatile and passionate about more areas than just one. Come graduation, the students are well versed with knowledge, concept base and skill. With some of the most prolific companies regularly seeking such talented and disciplined students, Fashion Communication remains one of the most desirable design disciplines at NIFT.

Textile Design - Textile designers dream up designs that are woven or knitted into cloth or printed on fabric. They might suggest types of thread to weave together for a specific look and feel or create patterns that adorn a fabric surface. From fiber to fabric, the design and development of textiles is the key to fashion.

The textile design students undertake Graduation project in their final year which are sponsored by textile mills, export houses, home and apparel retail brands, designers, NGOs or are self-sponsored.

 Accessory design – Accessory are personal objects that relate functionally, conceptually and aesthetically to people and their environment. Accessory design graduates have been able to carve a niche for themselves in traditional as well as emerging sectors of global fashion industry space namely jewellery, body gears, home accessories , craft furniture, footwear, bag, interiors, and in the realm of Designing experiences. NIFT graduates have also been able to tap the potential of emerging markets such as User Interface and Experience design, smart wearables , Consumer interface design and product design and online market channels. Many Accessory Design graduates are successful entrepreneurs today.

Knitwear Design  Knitwear designers deal with only knitted fabrics. Knitwear designers have their own special machines to manufacture knitted fabrics. Knitted apparel – an absolute segment in fashion, particularly in sportswear and lingerie. Knitwear designers can pursue careers as Designers, Creative managers, Merchandisers, Production Managers and Entrepreneurs.

Leather Design – Designing and working with leather to create a variety of things is known as leather design. Everything from apparel and accessories to furniture, purses, shoes, and more can be included in this broad category.

Leather Design graduates have opportunities in areas of Fashion business as Designers, Merchandisers, Range Developers, Buyers, Production Managers and Entrepreneurs. The Target industries include Export and Domestic Manufacturing, Retail, Buying and Sourcing. The Alumni of the Department are trendsetters in their respective areas and have conceived the modern paradigm of the industry, making it an integrated part of the Global Fashion and Lifestyle arena.

B.  F- tech – Apparel Production

It includes apparel manufacturing technology, Information technology, Quality management, Artificial Intelligence, etc. This course imparts extensive knowledge of raw materials including fabrics and trims and of machineries involved in the manufacturing of apparels. You will develop understanding of production planning, merchandising, work study and quality control which provide essential operational knowledge relating to future work profiles.

SALARY PACKAGES – Minimum salary package starts from 3.6 lakh per annum and the highest 18 lakh per annum was offered.

Graduates of this programme would be equipped to hold key positions in large fashion, design or corporate houses in the areas of Craft, Textiles, Special Needs, Publications, Media, Lifestyle Products, Graphics and User Experience Design, Exhibitions & Cultural festivals as well as Educational Programs, Developmental sector, Publication, Media writing & design, User-centred design depending on the area of specialisation pursued by each student. The area of specialization pursued by each student enables individual pathways in the design industry domains. The graduates would be able to contribute in Research and Development in government and private agencies. The course also prepares students for academic careers.

Master of Fashion Management (MFM) –

Students undergo in depth education in management, marketing, buying, merchandising (retail and export), retail operations and forecasting, International Marketing, International trade practices and project formulations. The students are also associated with craft clusters because of which they become better marketers of both handloom and handicraft products, and understand the entrepreneurial challenges of the MSME sector, and the business solutions that are needed.

Latest innovations in the programme have been in the areas of Mall Management, E-Business and Store Operations. Relevant new areas of study like Intellectual Property Rights, Social Media Marketing, Luxury Management, Services Marketing, e-commerce and the study of Special Product Groups have also been included in the curriculum. Students undertake company sponsored graduation research project with an organization of their choice to integrate the learning of previous semesters to solve problems. Over the last three decades the department and its alumni have shared a rich relationship with the industry, with most of the largest Fashion companies and brands recruiting students - some of which are also being headed by our alumni.

M F TECH – This programme cultivates post graduate student meant for techno managerial roles in this fashion and allied manufacturing sector. Technology students relating to the engineering of patterns using manual method and computer – aided design and construction of garments allow the students to understand product specifics. Extensive inputs are given in areas of Plant layout, Industrial Engineering, Maintenance Engineering related to manufacturing of fashion goods. Production and demand planning skills, technology and data management skills are honed during the programme. Additionally inputs of entrepreneurship and developing of business plans are provided. The programme requires the student to undertake a thesis in the field of their choice to research and derive solutions by way of collaborating with domestic and international companies.
